Expats and wannbees occasionally ask if it’s ok to hire someone who’s been deported as an illegal from the states. After all, there are many thousands of these guys looking for work down here in every Latin country, and their bound to show up for and interview… especially when they hear that a gringo is hiring. They do have their advantages. These guys and gals generally speak passable English and many have been positively indoctrinated to the gringo first-world way of doing things. With them, your training almost never has to start from ground zero. They can be up to speed in no time and tend to “get it” a lot faster than your average “untraveled” local. Sounds good right? Well its not that simple and here’s why……..

Did you know that a great many Latin men who are illegally in the US make it a point to try to impregnate a Latin girl in the big city barrio up there? That’s because a kid born in the US is automatically a citizen, and thus offers a good chance that the dad can get himself on the fast track to a green card. But there’s more… a great number of these guys also have a wife and/or kids back in their Latin homeland, a family that they often simply abandon forever…

An update on the state of illegal immigration to the US, the revolving door, and the new scams and dangers for the Latins that try to sneak in through Mexico

Some brand new and scary reasons why it is a very bad idea to even consider moving to Panama…

The upcoming Expat Wisdom “Latin American Insider Seminar” (well off the gringo tourist trail of course) will be Sunday, June 23, thru Friday, June 28… a full six days. It’s over 50% full so be sure to click here for full details, pricing and early bird signup bonus…

Follow the link here to schedule a consultation with me. If you want to discuss the details of living, working, playing, doing business and/or retiring in Latin America, now you and I can talk about your situation one on one.

May 17, 2013

A few words about those famous Latin “Quince Anos” parties. You should know that every Latin 15 year old girl has one of those “quince anos” parties and its a real big deal… a major shindig. Every expat off the tourist trail (who doesn’t hang exclusively with other expats) will surely get invited to more than a few of these boring events… especially if you have a Latin significant other. And if you don’t show up you’ll catch hell and if you do show you’ll probably be the only gringo there.

A local Latin pharmacist’s take on the Mormon penetration in Latin America.. his pharmacy is down the block from a big Mormon church and he sees the occasional walk-in.

Deported Latins are everywhere down here. Expats run into them all the time. And after having been ingloriously booted out of Uncle Sam land (some many times.) these guys want to bond with expats and be our friends. Why? Because they feel displaced and embarrassed and not quite at home back in Salvador or Nicaragua… the places they escaped from. They found out quickly that only in the US could a guy with a 6th grade education, no skills, poor hygiene and homemade tattoos have his own a car, apartment, flat screen TV, A/C, hot running water and such. Many male deportees feel they are a notch above their local brethren in the home country and take every opportunity to warm up to gringo expats to try to be their friends. What should you do when that happens to you? Just be polite, but don’t ever give them your address, email, or real phone number or you’ll have a pest on your hands. Yes they do speak some English, so what about hiring them for your Latin business? Er…generally not a good idea. I assure you, most deportees have picked up some very bad habits in the barrios of Los Angeles and/or on the streets of Cleveland.

A short primer on crude Latin American street slang

Every long term expat must be prepared for the eventuality that he/she will be tapped as a godparent to a Latin child. Can, or should, you turn it down? Well, here’s that story…

Don’t laugh, but some have postulated that gringos are genetically predisposed to succeed in Latin America. Could that be possible? Let’s talk about it…..

The upcoming Expat Wisdom “Latin American Insider Seminar” (well off the gringo tourist trail of course) will be Sunday, June 23, thru Friday, June 28… a full six days. It’s over 50% full so be sure to click here for full details, pricing and early bird signup bonus…

Your blog has the potential to be a money making magnet, if you know the right steps to take. Blogs once started as a sort of online diary. They’ve been totally transformed to fit a whole range of needs, from a place to house an online newspaper to a simple way to start an Internet stream of income. The following five methods will help you make money from your blog, no matter what niche you are in and how you are using your blog.

1. Affiliate marketing
This is one of the easiest ways to make money from your blog, and the simplest to start. You begin by selecting an affiliate program from one of the popular affiliate networks. You can either post a review on your blog about the product (complete with your affiliate link) or post ads along the side of your posts (also with your affiliate link). Affiliate marketing is simple to implement because you don’t have to worry about writing a product.

2. Selling your own product
If you feel there is a need to be met in your niche and want to create your own product, you can add it to your blog for another stream of income. Advertising your own product on your blog is a smart idea. Your readers have already built a level of trust with you so they’ll be likely to be interested in your product. You can link to your product’s sales page directly from your posts and display graphic ads in the sidebars of your blog.

3. Contextual advertising
Contextual advertising, like the type offered at Text Links, will help you make money from your blog without much intervention on your part. When you sign up with Text Links or a similar service, your blog posts will automatically have certain words hyper-linked. These links go to advertiser’s websites. You get paid when someone clicks on a link. Unlike with affiliate programs, you don’t get a commission on the sale but you do get paid whether or not your visitor buys from the advertiser’s site.

4. Other types of advertising
Google Adsense and other pay per click advertising programs will give you code to add to your website. These programs will display ads in the sidebars of your website. Anytime a visitor clicks on one of these links, you will get paid anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars depending on your niche. These ads don’t appear within the body of your post, but they are based on the content of your posts so they will be attractive to your audience.

5. Get paid for reviews
Once you have some traffic coming to your blog, you can be paid to post reviews. There are many different networks that link advertisers with bloggers. You simply find an advertiser through one of these networks and promise to post a review on your blog about the product or service. You’ll be paid a flat rate for your review. Be sure the product or service is relevant to your niche for best results with this monetization model.

As you can see, you have a lot of different options when it comes to making money with your blog. Try one or all of these to see what works best for your niche.

On a recent podcast of the ‘Expat Files’ Johnny lists the six topics he’s most frequently asked about.

They are (in no particular order):

    Retiring

    Health Care

    Cost of Living

    Dating and Romance

    Security and Safety

    Setting up a Business

And there’s also a 7th.

From my many conversations with expat wannabees, I would add, *Happiness*

Now rarely does anyone come out and directly ask, “Will I be Happier if I move to XYZ country?” but that IS pretty much what they’re asking. And that’s the bottom line for all us isn’t it?!

We want *H-A-P-P-I-N-E-S-S*

We’re looking to be happy…. free from the stress, strains, headaches and craziness of life.

But becoming an ‘expat’ doesn’t remove these dramas, yes you get distracted for a while with your new life but a new set of stresses, strains, headaches WILL appear.

You see, no matter where you go, there you are.

Maybe that sounds kinda of silly, being so obvious.

Yes, you may change your physical environment but your emotional (internal) environment will rarely change without proactive action.

17 years ago I found something that changed my life and helped me find *H-A-P-P-I-N-E-S-S* (don’t get me wrong, I have my periods of unhappiness but this always pulls me out).

How about you. Are you happy?

Do you think becoming an expat will make you happy?

Do you do anything that always brings you true *H-A-P-P-I-N-E-S-S*?

Yes, explore the world, meet like-minded people, attend quality seminars (like the upcoming “Latin America Insider Seminar”) but just remember there is no Utopia, because I promise you this,

“Where Ever You Go, There You Are!”

Here’s what i do.

Click on the date to play the show…

May 12, 2013

-The FATCA “Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act” does not kick in until Jan 1, 2014 but some expats doing business here in Latin America have already seen the effects of the dreaded 30% bank withholding part of the act- regarding wire transfers from US banks to foreign banks and offshore entities. For some its has already started. Though withholding has been sparse and spotty, I have heard stories direct from expat business owners who’ve been hit up for 30% in the last few months by US banks involved in sending down transfers.

-Note the real purpose of the FATCA act is NOT to collect the 30% withholding as they claim, but the real intent is to get foreign banks and financial institutions to report all of their US client data and their bank balance sheets to the IRS. That way Big Brother can monitor and at some time later find ways to milk smart-ass expats and foreign account holders that have voted with their feet and are now out of BB reach

-A word about new, green, expats and how they seem to gradually disconnect from the generally depressed and pessimistic friends and relatives they’ve left behind in Cleveland. Its inevitable that the Skyping back home simply peters out…

-And now for a piece of hate-mail. Turns out, to my surprise, long-term expats also listen to the show… even though it was never quite intended for them. I mean really… why would long term expats need my advice?
Anyway, its obvious that some long term expats listen but do not like at all what I have to say. For some of them I’m just a crude money-hungry gringo pulling back the curtain and ruining their paradise. Here’s a good email sample of one such guy on an anti-Johnny rant …

-Lately Latin banks have been offering 10% annual interest or more for local currency CD’s and up to 5% interest on CD’s denominated in US dollars. Now, that looks spectacularly good compared to what you can get in any US bank. But is it recommended , are they safe investments and are the banks offering these nice rates safe?

-The upcoming Expat Wisdom “Latin American Insider Seminar” (well off the gringo tourist trail of course) will be Sunday, June 23, thru Friday, June 28… a full six days. It’s over 50% full so be sure to click here for full details, pricing and early bird signup bonus…

If you want to discuss the details of living, working, playing, doing business and/or retiring in Latin America, now you and I can talk about your situation one on one.

Dear Expat or Expat Wannabee,

Did you know the ‘affiliate model’ is one of the quickest and easiest ways to start making money online? Heck that’s one of the ways we do it here at Expat Wisdom!

Affiliate marketing is an agreement between a vendor and an affiliate (you) in which the vendor pays the affiliate a commission for referrals generated through the affiliate’s efforts to promote a uniquely assigned tracking link.

Affiliate Marketing Is Fast And Easy To Get Started

It works like this. . .

        1) You register for an affiliate program through their signup process. (Free)

        2) Then you are given a unique affiliate tracking link.

        3) Next, you promote the affiliate tracking link in a variety of ways. (which we will address later)

        4) Lastly, you earn commissions on orders generated for the vendor through your promotion

That’s just a general overview of affiliate marketing. You promote your “affiliate link” and get paid when people click thru your link and buy the product you are promoting. It’s very easy and very fast to get started.

Affiliate Marketing Is A Great Business Model

This money-making model is. . .

        1) Easy to build into a sustainable business that rewards you in the long-term

Some in the blogging world have figured out the fine art of waxing eloquently about their passion and interests, and at the same time maximizing opportunities to make money from those visiting their blog.

However, these people are few and far between, as it can be difficult to find the balance of making money (sometimes lots of money) without compromising the integrity and nature of the blog.

And that’s just the “tip of the iceberg”!

Would you rather make money in a job you hate or pursue your passions and make money doing it?

Hopefully, that is an easy question for you to answer. I realize it may sound like a dumb question, but sadly millions of people go to jobs they don’t like everyday.

Like mindless drones theses unhappy people watch the clock all day until it is time to go home, so they can then hopefully pursue and do the things they like doing.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could combine your extra curricular interests with you work? Wouldn’t it be exciting to actually enjoy what you do? And wouldn’t it be a blast to get paid to talk about, and write about your interests and hobbies?

If any of this describes you, then blogging may be just the big break you’ve been waiting for.

Think of it this way. You can go clock in at your job and make a few bucks for both you and your boss or company. . .

Or you could fire your boss, leave your 9-5, roll out of bed each morning, spend the day immersing yourself into your passions and then share your insights and thoughts with the world through your blog, while earning a nice little income.

Maybe your dream isn’t to leave your job, just to make a little extra money on the side. Blogging is a great way to make this happen too.

All the babes swooned when he walked by. The giddy crowds of girls hushed when he spoke. Cheerleaders dated him and bragged about porking him. You gave him your lunch money and the answers to the History exam. Alas, the lessons you learn about male coolness in grade school never really go away- thus the laundry A-list as follows. To wit:

#1- First-string Jockstraps. Carmen Electra’s first marriage was to a seven foot orange-haired black guy with 40 face piercings and an IQ to match. Could Dennis Rodman snag a catch like that if he was a night manager at Wal-Mart?

#2-The cool, silent, disdainful macho men. Sadism works wonders on certain types of good-looking women-treat ‘em rough. Mickey Rourke, Russel Crowe, O.J. and other stellar members of the He-Man Woman-Beaters Club are the role models here.

#3-The fashion-conscious and artsy-fartsy bohemians. Just add recreational drugs and serve: she’ll be too zonked to notice you’re pushing rope. Think Andy Warhol; Picasso, and Jackson Pollock here and the babes they would have attracted had they been red-neck truckers.

#4-Musicians. Specifically, rock’n'roll singers and guitarists. Remember that Dave Navarro the Red Hot Chilli Pepper guitar player with 40 neck tattoos and matching track marks was Carmen Electra’s next bad matrimonial choice. And never forget that brain dead Tommy Lee beat the shit out of Pam Anderson, gave her numerous STDs and hepatitis C and still got her to the altar not once but three times. Does your cultural past includes, orchestra, banjo, French horn, accordion, or marching band? Fat chance in this world, Bub, rock and roll’s the thing!

#5-The just-plain ruggedly handsome. Stupidity and selfishness just enhances that Marlborough man appeal.

#6-Rich guys. (see #5, above.)

Of course if you combine any of the above categories-say you have a handsome rich guy and he dresses well and he’s first-string quarterback and he sings in a rock n’ roll band and he’s strong, silent and disdainful-well, then, he’s off the charts, isn’t he? On the other hand, if you’re like me, you don’t find yourself placing anywhere meaningful on the above list (full disclosure: I played French Horn in band). I’m a lowly 5 (‘taps’ blowing here) and of course I have an inferiority complex, wallowing in my own imperfections while gazing in awe at godlike 8s, 9s and 10s bronzing in G strings on the beach. I’m in good company: the vast majority of American males reside in the swollen belly of this bell curve – neither horrifically ugly or blindingly beautiful. Dear Mr. Average Joe: this book is for you. And guess what, dearie? We’ve got a whole section about you later so read on.* However, we will now lift you from the depressing depths by reminding you of those lucky bastards on the ‘gifted’ list. Just be aware that once in Latin America the ‘Gringo Advantage’ levels that ‘pretty boy’ playing field quite nicely.

Yes, even a dead-average Gringo has a fighting chance against any handsome Antonio Banderas type with abs of steel. Pissing contests over ladies we don’t recommend however, since there are so many countless Latina beauty queens to choose from, why bother? Just move on to the next J-Lo clone and make her happy.

*[FOOTNOTE:] We left out homosexuals on the list here because, although paradoxically, gay guys usually do attract highly attractive women, we regular Joes don’t want to emulate gay guys lest their, shall we say, other qualities rub off on us-qualities like being smart, witty, compassionate and well groomed. Also, having to imagine Brad Pitt while you’re porking a Selma Hyack clone just seems too high a price to pay for success with women.

May 10, 2013

So many new expats and visitors, when traveling off the tourist trail, are surprised to see how many poor folks (mostly indigenous men and women) and even very young kids wander along the highways collecting loads of newly cut wood and carrying bundles of the stuff on their backs like pack mules. And gringos, until they get used to it, find it hard to believe that about one third of Latin American families cook and heat their homes with firewood like in the Wild West days!

-And now a few stinging comments about dating, mating and marriage from a well-travelled male gringo listener who claims he can actually dance! He’s obviously more than a bit put off when he sees that a good proportion of white, lonely-heart, middle-aged gringos down in Latin America (who can’t dance) are hooking up with young Latinas (who obviously cut a mean rug too).

-Some very frank and un-PC love and romance comments for all of you gringos and gringas who’ve heard certain rumors about what can happen with gringo/Latin relationships in Latin America

-Yes its true (on the tourist trail especially) some Latin women and men are looking to hook up with practically any gringo or gringa just for the chance at that elusive green card and the high possibility (in their minds of course) of having blond, blue-eyed Justin Beiber babies. Latins know they won’t hit that kind of genetic lottery with any of the local Latin talent. But no expat wants to be taken for a ride, so what to do? Well, there are ways of determining, in any budding relationship, the true intent of your prospective romantic partner. There does exist a simple weeding out process for potential gold-diggers that has proven success in many questionable cases.

Click on the date to play the show…

May 5, 2013

-Is it safe to jog or bike on the open road in Latin America? Are people actually into it in a big way like many folks in the states? Of course there are safe and not so safe areas to hit the road… and the goods news is, there are very few reports of Latin joggers and bicyclists getting assaulted or mugged – even though many of them exercise in polluted, chaotic city centers that I would never recommend for expats.

-Only in Latin America (and maybe Washington DC) will you see this strange phenomena; a lone jogger or bicyclist putting down a public big city road while being closely trailed by a bulletproof luxury SUV that’s chock full of bodyguards

-What about outdoor hobbies like mountain biking, skating, scuba, surf and skate boarding, and those extreme sports like hang-gliding bungie jumping, zip-lining, stock car and drag racing and paintball? Are Latins into any of that stuff? If so, what about secure places do them and shops and stores where you can get all the latest gear? Well, here’s the dope on that….

-Latins have all manner and types of car and auto clubs, even shows and competitions for classic Detroit heavy metal; that is, if your hobby veers to that interest. However, since Latins are not big on the details, your car (I mean a gringo owned and maintained classic) will most probably win all the awards.

- Some additional cost- of- living info reinforcing why, unless you have a hefty pension, its not a very good idea to expat to either Argentina, Uruguay, Costa Rica or Chile.

Does it matter that Reggaeton mega hits like “Gasolina” and “Dale Don Dale” are nothing more then thinly disgusted Latina Booty calls? What else is new in dance music?

So what if Sinatra and Bobby Darin did it 50 years ago with a tenth of the wattage, no bass, no drums and zero bling bling. The more things change… but wait!

Didn’t those old songs have a beginning, middle and an end? Yeah, yeah, and words you could actually find in a dictionary.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we can blame Daddy Yankee, Don Omar and their Puerto Rican street Homeys for mainstreaming this new so-called music style. And honestly, most musicologists see it as a logical Latino street response to the success of Black Rap and Hip Hop (two slightly older rhythmic flavours that also suck, degrade women- we should talk- and old white men happen to be clueless about).

How did it start? Well, in the states the Latino and Black street cultures are always at war about something or other- be it turf, drugs, jobs, babes or government handouts – and thus, not to be outdone, Latinos needed their very own street music.

Reggaeton emerged as the competing force in the Black-vs-Latino music battle. It’s now a such a bleating cultural phenomena that there’s some hope that it will fade away fast like Ricky Martin the Spice Girls, Ben Afleck, or the Bee Gees. Hopefully in your lifetime, Gringo.

But you can play the game while it lasts. Its easy. And so as not to appear completely square (cuadrado) and out of it you should at least refrain from ragging on the Reggaeton to your hot Latina’s face. Bitching about the pointlessly infantile lyrics and 2nd grade talent from Latino gangstas with better car-jacking skills than musicianship will get you nowhere.

Instead just concentrate on the heavenly contortions your Latina will slip into on the dance floor as the beat kicks in (and while you contemplate your own pathetic pogo-stick moves, try not to hurt HER).

-Some very recent Latin American cost of living examples.. this time not from me but from a brand new green expat (who knows almost no Spanish). Tom came with fresh boots on the ground and he’s been here only 4 months and got the housing deal of a lifetime… and man, did he do right!

-I get many email questions from gringos and gringas regarding dating, mating, love and romance in Latin America. Things that are very pertinent but that I just can’t answer on the show. So as to not leave many of you hanging out to dry on that important subject… I can now can refer you to the ExpatWisdom.com website where you’ll find a very very knowlegable new blogger named Expat X.. a guy who has interviewed more than 200 Expats on that very subject. I’m sure you will find his take on the subject interesting, useful, honest and un-PC.

-Some thoughts about how to get the vitamins, supplements and the various health-based stuff you’re used to getting up in the first world. There’s the usual suspects like Vitamin C and D and CoQ10 and curcumin, but what about the one-off items like Gary Null’s Green Stuff? How do you get that shipped?

-Tips on bringing vitamins, supplements and/or prescription drugs on airplanes. What are the rules and the problems when bringing them in carry on or checked luggage?

-The upcoming Expat Wisdom “Latin American Insider Seminar” (well off the gringo tourist trail of course) will be Sunday, June 23, thru Friday, June 28… a full six days. It’s over 50% full so be sure to click here for full details, pricing and early bird signup bonus…

-Follow the link here to schedule a consultation with me. If you want to discuss the details of living, working, playing, doing business and/or retiring in Latin America, now you and I can talk about your situation one on one.

April 28, 2013

-There are a vast variety of English teaching jobs in Latin America and they’re easily obtained even if you don’t know any Spanish at all. And unlike in the first world or in many Asian countries, down here you don’t need a teaching certificate or any kind of certification… and often no experience is necessary at all (its even spelled out as such in many help wanted ads).

-There are many other English teaching jobs easily obtainable for expats, and they actually pay more then teaching school… For example; there’s a great need for instructors and English language troubleshooters at all of the many first world outsourced call centers.

-A word about “fear of failure” present to some degree in all expat wannabees. People on the fence about leaving always want to know how long their money will last. They don’t ever want to slip back into Cleveland with their tail between their legs. After all, in Latin America, there is no safety net, no unemployment, no food stamps or welfare to fall back on (which is actually a good thing). So how long will your dough last?

-What happens to green gringos who come down to Latin America with ethereal university degrees in philosophy, economics, art history, drama and such… with degrees that might just qualify them for jobs at Wall Mart, Starbucks or Home Depot up in the states?

-Can a person with scant resources survive comfortably down here even if he/she has no flair for business and/or doesn’t even care to start one?

-Did you know that in Latin America you can still make a call at a public phone for about 2 to 3 cents a minute? And unlike five or ten year ago, most public phones actually work (because most countries have privatized them now). However, many phone booths are beyond grungy and disgusting and thus only recommended for emergencies (like the phone booths in Cleveland).

Expat ‘X’ here. A couple of days ago the Expat Wisdom guys emailed some of their subscribers asking if they had any questions. Within a few hours I received nearly 100 questions about romance, Latin style! So I’ve put here a few of the more common and quirky. PG rating and POLITICALLY INCORRECT! You’ve been warned…

1. THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS– Jack R., 54, Cincinnati, OH
Q: Compared to 1st World babes, are Latinas more or less sexually promiscuous? To cut to the chase- how many dates does it take to, err… get laid?
A: In Latin America, Gringa (female American) tourists have a well-deserved reputation of being easy lays. But Latinas, who can be very shy at first, always seem to be reserved on the first few dates, especially with Gringos. But don’t worry: once revved up, Latin girls have internal fires that burn hotter and brighter than any Gringas.

2. OUT OF STEAM– Clive B., 62, Carmel, IN
Q: I’m 62 years old and a bit of a couch potato. Will I be able to keep up with sexually with a young Latin girl?
A: Hell, no–But it’ll be great fun trying.

3. BIMBOLANDIA– Pete K, 56, Riverside, CA
Q: I like all babes but I’m a particular sucker for blonds. Are there blond bimbos in Latin America too?
A: Yes, there are blonds in Latin America but only one in a ten thousand is natural. The real ones are descendants of European immigrants and are definitely high- maintenance and to-be avoided. Bottle blonds, however, pervade all classes. You can tell a bottle blond by her brown or black eyes and the errant dark hairs on the bikini wax job.

4. PEEPHOLE OF OPPORTUNITY– Stanley F., 61, Elko, NE
Q: How long will the so-called Gringo Advantage last before the rest of the world catches on?
A: Because of globalization, free trade, Internet and the mass media, the Gringo Advantage may peter out in 10 years or so–but only in the big cities (this has already happened in Costa Rica and Mexico to name a few places). Sooner or later big city babes will succumb to 1st World craziness–shrinks, Zoloft, Prozac, American Idol, Feng Shui, frappaccino latte, and radical feminism–but in the vast Latin America boondocks the ‘Gringo Advantage’ should last decades.

5. WEIGHT WATCHERS– Danny Z., 48, Parker, CO
Q: Latin girls look great when they are in their 20’s, but do they pork out like our own stateside prize heifers after a kid or two? Should I worry?
A: That’s not a problem if you decide to live in Latin America, but growing weight problems can creep up on Latin babes relocated to the states. With all the junk food joints in the US it’s hard for a new transplant not to get addicted, especially if a Latina adopts the fast-food habits of Gringas and quits cooking at home. Also don’t forget to check out the gene pool- how mom and sisters tip the scales.

6. FASHION DISASTER– Kenny F., 58, Laurel, MS
Q: In the last few years I’ve been depressed about my love life and have let myself go. I’m so far behind in fashion that I don’t have a clue what’s in style for a guy my age and don’t want to go down to Latin America and come off like a hayseed fashion disaster. What should I do?
A: True, you don’t want to come off looking like a rumpled Andy Rooney–but you won’t need to consult a gay family member for fashion correctness in this expedition. Latinas expect a Gringo to look like a blue jean/T-shirt tourist. But we do suggest you take a bath, lose the beard and retro pony tail, ditch the baseball cap, and shit-can the bowling shirt.

7- SHOW TIME– Donny M., 50, Great lakes, IL.
Q: How much time should I take off and how long will the whole process take from start to finish?
A: A month should be plenty. A few very good Latina prospects are sure to turn up in the first few days and then you’ll pick one and serial date her maybe a dozen times. You’ll need time to meet the family, bond etc., etc. It’s easy, and if you can’t pull the whole thing off in a month you might as well share a needle with Keith Richards.

8. DEFECTIVE MERCHANDISE– Nick L., 60, New London, CT.
Q: I’ve been in and out of analysis for years. What happens when she finds out I’m an incurable neurotic on Lithium?
A: No problem. Latina’s are very forgiving and tolerant, and chances are your neurosis won’t hold a candle to the dysfunctional macho guys they’ve been dating.

9. YIDS AND KIDS– Andrew M., 52, Exeter NH.
Q: I’m Jewish, and most Latin girls are died-in-the-wool Catholics. Won’t there be a culture clash? Even if I’m into Nietzsche and not into kosher, can I expect problems when it comes to bringing up the kids?
A: The Jewish thing shouldn’t be a problem with the babes at all, but as for kids, we recommend a quick vasectomy on top of the circumcision before you arrive so you won’t have to face that problem. And a helpful hint, before you go down–lose the beard, yarmulke, and the funeral director duds.

10-PREGANT PAUSES– Willy F., 57, Newfane, VT
Q: I’m very bad with names. With all those hyphenated Latin tongue twisters I’m sure I’ll never be able to keep them straight. Won’t I be in the doghouse with a babe and her family if I’m continuously at a loss?
A: You’re a Gringo, and a rarity in Latin America, so every last member of her extended family will remember your name. But don’t worry if you can’t instantly come up with theirs in return. Just smile and hide behind the language barrier–it’s a great excuse. If you come up empty, we guarantee you’ll never forget your own babe’s name. Oh, and there are three other male family members you’re sure to remember cuz they always seem to show up in the family tree: Uncle Juan, little Gordo and of course, cousin Jesus. And if all else fails- tell them your memory’s been shot ever since that Agent Orange dose back in Nam.

And there’s alot more I didn’t answer. I’ll have more for ya REAL soon…
